Matt Slaybaugh’s writing and directing of original works for Available Light and the BlueForms Theatre Group has been lauded by American Theatre magazine, the National New Play Network, New York Press, the Central Ohio Theatre Critics Circle, the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards, and the Cincinnati Fringe Festival.

In addition, his work has been seen at Baltimore Center Stage, InterAct Theatre in Philadelphia, the Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Galapagos in Brooklyn, Hyde Park of Austin, the Kennedy Center ACT Festival, the Gerald W. Lynch Theater in NYC, Red Herring, and Actors’ Theatre of Columbus, among others.

Matt was the kick-off speaker at Columbus’s first TEDx event and riffed on the real-time web at iCitizen 2010. Matt teaches at CCAD, served on the Greater Columbus Creative Cultural Commission, writes at Scribbleboxing dot com, and Agit Reader dot com, and is a proud member of the C-Tec Academy Advisory Board.

Matt’s Columbus Top Five:
1. That smell from the Wonder Bread factory. It smells like hot doughnuts.
2. The Wexner Center
3. Weightless Recordings
4. Luck Bros Coffee House
5. Laughing Ogre

Also … I call it Bustown. I like the trees. I like Bettys, Tip Top, and Surly Girl (though I miss the veggie sausage pizza). I like Jeni’s & Denise’s. I like Lindey’s and Jonny’s Pizza. Northstar rocks, Skreened is my newest fave, and Miranda Sound wrote one of my anthems. I miss Little Brothers and the Short North Playhouse. Lastly, I love that, as Leigh Householder put it – You’re basically guaranteed to be rubbing elbows with an artist whether you’re shopping the North Market or noshing on Hyde Park steaks.

Pssssst, pass it on!

      Hi Matt,

I heard you speak at the latest TEDx and was wowed by your performance. My family moved to Columbus from Portland, Oregon so that my husband could head the Wellington School. I don’t know if you are familiar with the school but Nancy Kramer is the Chair of the Board at Wellington and all three of her children attended (her youngest is a senior). The school is in the search for a theater director and I wonder if you would be interested in the job. At his last school my husband worked with one of his faculty to members to start play writing and production class for the high school students and they have done amazing things. If you are interested in talking about possibilities, please call or email my husband at brisk@wellington.org or 324-1655.

Hey Matt! I wanted to thank you again for coming into the Otterbein Directing Class, the other week. You told me to get a hold of you about maybe coming down and spending a day doing Viewpoints and Suzuki work with the company. I would love to hear from you. I hope you are well!
