A lot of ink has been spilled over the notion that each of the past 3 decades could be called the "ME Decade." Americans are obsessed with personal achievement, individual wealth, self-esteem, self-image, and self-preservation. We've created a culture that keeps us fearful of our neighbors and protective of our space. This attitude is visible all over, from America's increasingly self-reverential, isolationist foreign policy to the sudden disappearance of street lights and sidewalks in our neighborhoods. With so much energy expended on preserving and promoting ourselves, what resources are left for preserving our communities and taking care of each other?

A Lonely Crowd was originally debuted on 11.14.03 by the BlueForms Theatre Group and was nominated for Best New Work in 2004 by The Central Ohio Theatre Ciritics Circle.

Michael Shooner, of Take Back America and New Edgecliff Theatre, called A Lonely Crowd "one of the most compelling, thought-provoking, relevant, humorous, heart-breaking, intelligent, inspiring pieces of theatre I've seen in several years."
