DAVE WALLINGFORD is a founding member of Available Light Theatre, and serves as AVLT’s Production Manager. That means he’s usually hiring designers and technical staff, sorting out production budgets, scheduling technical rehearsals and production meetings, and occasionally figuring out how to get a few cubic yards of dirt onstage (HUM,) designing and programming a video playback system for 11 different TVs and projectors (How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe,) or reckoning with producing a show in an active food market (The Food Play,) all while designing the sound for almost every AVLT show.
Dave’s first foray into audio was when he was about 8 years old, when he rigged up a microphone on Christmas Eve with the intention of recording his parents placing presents, and thus proving the fallacy of Santa Claus to his younger siblings. Since then, he has managed to turn his audio hobby into a sound career. When not working on an AVLT project, he can be found in various theaters, concert halls, arenas, ballrooms, recording studios, and TV trucks across the country, working as a freelance audio engineer and sound designer.
