white rabbit red rabbit - 2022
In March 2021, 92 theatres in 33 countries performed WRRR on the same day, as part of Aurora Nova’s LET THERE BE THEATRE initiative. And this year, Available Light has been invited to join them.
There is no Director. We have held no rehearsals. Ian Short, our intrepid performer for the night, has not even read the script; he’s simply not allowed. The script is sealed in an envelope, and will be handed to him for the first time after he steps onto the stage.
The New York Times described White Rabbit Red Rabbit as “A playful, enigmatic, and haunting show that takes on a gravity that prickles your skin, and keeps taking unexpected turns that often lead us back to the relief of laughter.” But don’t tell Ian. We don’t want to spoil the surprise for him…

Ian Short (Performer) is a graduate of Otterbein University and a founding company member of Available Light Theatre. He has performed with Short North Stage, BalletMet, CATCO and many other Columbus theatre companies. Some of his theatre credits include Alan Turing (Breaking the Code), Sam Carmichael (Mamma Mia!), Mr. Darcy (Pride and Prejudice), John Wilkes Booth (Assassins), Harold (The Full Monty) and Richard III (Richard III). Film credits include Dark Waters, The Christmas Spirit, Chain of Command and A Kind of Murder. He lives in Westgate with his beautiful wife Amanda, their adorable daughter Riley, and their sassy cat Luna.
Eleni Papaleonardos (Producer) is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre at Denison University, where she directs and teaches courses in acting, physical theatre, and devising. She apprenticed at Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, studied theatre at the Ohio State University, and was a member of the first M.F.A. company in Contemporary Performance at Naropa University. Eleni joined Columbus-based Available Light Theatre in 2008 and has served in multiple areas including artistic director, director, actor, producer, and literary manager. She has a passion for devising and developing new and original works and creating performances which focus on immersive, site-specific and/or interactive experiences which often break the constructs of traditional realist theatre. Eleni is grateful to the people, structures, and connections which allowed her to continue to create meaningful theatrical experiences throughout the pandemic and especially for all the alignments which made tonight possible.
Acacia Leigh Duncan (Stage Manager) is happy to be helping out behind the scenes for this AVLT return. She most recently was seen in Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play at CATCO. As a founding member of Available Light Theatre, she has had numerous roles: actor, director, choreographer, costume designer, writer. A few favorites include: Every Brilliant Thing, Dance Nation, You Got Older, John Cage 101, Pride & Prejudice, Don Quixote, and Cymbeline. She has also performed with Actor’s Theatre, Wild Women Writing, Gallery Players, Red Herring and others. During the day, Acacia is the Director of Training and Coaching for Articulation, helping leaders excel as confident and compelling speakers. But more than anything, she loves to escape into nature and camp with her husband, Matt.
