"If you were ever a 13-year-old girl, Clare Barron’s daring, raw Dance Nation will probably hit you hard. If you weren’t, the play might feel like strange, even somewhat disturbing terrain."
- Sara Holdren
, Vulture.com
"Conjures the passionate ambivalence of early adolescence with such being-there sharpness and poignancy that you’re not sure whether to cringe, cry or roar with happiness."
- Ben Brantley,
New York Times
ABOUT THIS PLAY
2019 Pulitzer Prize Finalist // Winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Relentless Award
PLEASE NOTE: This play is NOT for children.
Somewhere in America, an army of pre-teen, competitive dancers plots to unleash their POWER and take over the world.
In this unapologetically candid portrayal of the mysteries of adolescence, a young team of performers copes with much more than choreography. Each plié and jeté puts them one step further from childhood and one step closer to discovering their own identities, amidst a raucous pageant of ferocious ambition.
